This article raises a number of complicated issues concerning the grey area around the artistic license of curators and the artistic rights of the artist.
If the display and context can so easily transform the meaning and/or emphasis of an artwork, should not the artist be able to exercise some form of authority over the terms and conditions of display even after the said artwork has been sold??
In an age when the display of art has taken on new meaning in itself, to what extent may curators exercise personal artistic license in the curation of another artists work?
Is such experimentation in art practice more acceptable after an agreed length of time, or should all curation and design remain invisible, forever lurking in the shadow of the art itself?? The politics of display remain an active issue, and one worth consideration when faced with the opportunity of constructing an exhibition that puts the new generation in control of display.
