Secret Science event at Wollaton Hall, this Friday

On Friday 25th September at 5-8 pm something very exciting is happening at Wollaton Hall …The Secret Science Show is happening once again!

The key note speaker this year will be Professor Sarah Hainsworth, a forensic engineer who has worked on the weapon marks on the Richard III skeleton and will be telling us about her work as well as a broader talk on all the aspects of the Richard III project. The demonstrations will be from Andrew Gleadhall, PhD student from the University of Nottingham, with “3D Printing..We’ve Hit it on the Nose!” about his work on meshes for cell growth for people who need nose reconstruction surgery following trauma or illness; Dr Adam Smith from Nottingham City Museums and Galleries with the plesiosaur skeleton and his work on movement in plesiosaurs; Louise Dynes and Dr Vinod Kumar, Research Fellow, with a demonstration on a topic called ‘The power of microbes’, explaining how microbes can turn unwanted substances into more useful ones such as fuels and plastics; and Helen Crowfoot and Dr Phil Dunn demonstrating our “Galleries to Go” session for schools on human evolution.

There are also excellent refreshments and science busking! The event is suitable for any one aged over Year 6 – families, groups and individuals.
