Finding out about the Museum's design team

Adrian Davis from the Museum Design team came to talk to us about his role with in the museum. He started by telling us about his background and his route into the job. He showed us some of his University degree work from his theatre design course and a portfolio of bits he had done afterwards he also gave us advice about how to get into a similar role.

Although he leads the design team Adrian said that a lot of his job is project managment but he works alongside specialist staff in the museum as well as freelance designers, artists and makers.

He then told us a bit about the varied role of the design team, he is currently working on a redesign for aspects of Wollaton Hall. To give us an idea of the sort of thing he did he gave us a design problem to solve.  He handed out a family tree about the owners and occupiers of Wollaton hall and asked if we could come up with a visual "info graphic " to convey the important information on it.

Here are some of our ideas. ..

We are hoping some of these ideas make it into the final redesign !

Adrain also oversaw the design and development of the Riot exhibition at Nottingham Castle. The museum  received funding to experiment with augmented reality with in the Museum, as part of this they developed an app which responds to certain objects with in the exhibition.

Here we are having a play with the app. Which can be downloaded here.

It was a fascinating session, Adrian gave us lots of thoughtful advice about developing the opportunities and skills to find work we are interested in and gave us an insight into the work of the design team.
